Essential rules for playing at Adare Manor Golf Club
February 2025
1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)
Out of Bounds is defined by the line between the course-side points at ground level of white stakes and
fence posts and includes:
• Outside the boundaries of the course.
• The Clubhouse, Clubhouse enclosure, Car Parks, and surrounding paths.
• Within the boundary walls of the Abbey, Castle, and Graveyard.
• Marked areas around Machinery Sheds.
Out of Bounds on specific holes are as follows:
• When playing Hole 3, the area to the left of the line from the white stake on the left hand side of the 3rd Tee to the white stake at the end of the wall, to the left of the wall, and left of the continuing road from the last stake.
• On Hole 8, the shrubbery to the left of the green.
• When playing the 13th Hole, all the area left of the white stakes running left of the 11th Tee Box, and beyond, as far as the end of the machinery compound.
2. Penalty Areas (Rule 17)
Penalty Areas are marked by either Yellow or Red stakes
3. Abnormal Course Conditions (including Immovable Obstructions) (Rule 16)
The following are defined as Immovable Obstructions:
• All Roads and Paths. If a ball comes to rest on a road or path, the player may play as it lies or take complete relief by dropping a ball, without penalty, not nearer the hole and within one club-length of the Nearest Point of Complete Relief. The same relief is available if the obstruction interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, even though the ball does not touch the obstruction.
• All watering installations.
• All steps on tees.
• All drain covers and manholes.
• All distance markers on fairways.
• The practice nets to the right of the first fairway.
• Historical markers on the 5th fairway, left of the 14th green and behind the 18th green.
• The well on the 9th fairway.
• The net on the left hand side of the 11th fairway.
• The metal supports on each side of the arch to the right of the 16th green.
• All signage.
4. Integral Objects
All outcropped walls and rocks. No relief is available.
5. Protection of Young Trees (Rule 16)
The young trees identified by blue stakes are in No Play Zones. If a player’s ball lies anywhere on the course other than in a penalty area and it lies on or touches such a tree or such a tree interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing, the player must take relief under Rule 16.1f.
6. No Play Zones (Rule 16)
All No Play Zones are marked with blue stakes. Such areas are to be treated as an Abnormal Course Condition. Free relief must be taken from interference by the no play zone under Rule 16.1f. All flower beds are No Play Zones
7. Practicing Before Rounds
Players are allowed to practice before their round, in the following areas:
• The practice putting green.
• The general practice area to the right of the first fairway.
